Main Attributes

  • At least 5 years experience as Director of Human Resources preferred
  • Degree in Human Resources preferred
  • Good knowledge of Federal and State employment laws and regulations
  • Experience in recruiting and hiring employees
  • Experience with employee benefits administration
  • Experience with ADP payroll programs
  • Detailed knowledge of insurance industry including General Liability, D & O, Auto, Property, and Accident policies
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis on MS Word and Excel
  • Strong communication, administrative, and management skills
  • Ability to supervise HR department staff
  •  Strongly supports and abides by the USSA core values

Position Summary

Under broad supervision, manages human resource functions, including compensation, benefits, recruitment, insurance, background screening, employee relations, training, and personnel/payroll transactions.  Implements personnel policy and procedures.  Supervises and directs the work of the administrative staff.

Primary Duties

  • Ensures position classification, recruitment, and employee selections are accomplished within acceptable time frames and in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
  • Conducts individual "new hire" orientation on all company benefits, procedures, and policies.
  • Maintains employees' personnel files and other confidential files.
  • Administers the timely entry of data into the appropriate system, including information pertaining to employee separations, appointments, time off requests, benefits, payroll, etc.
  • Administers personnel payroll functions including salary changes, wage assessments, GL distributions, reports, etc.
  • Administers the time off program, including proper distribution, receipt and review of Time Off Authorization forms for accuracy and completeness.
  • Directs staff in accurately interpreting applicable policies and procedures for employees and/or supervisors.
  • Provides and disseminates benefits information. Counsels, informs and advises employees in benefit selection.
  • Ensures benefit programs, and changes to programs, are effectively communicated to employees and administered according to established guidelines.
  • Manages all aspects of the employee insurance program including selection of broker and Insurance companies.
  • Conducts and/or supervises the annual employee benefit "open enrollment" process.
  • Performs exit interview with terminating employees.
  • Verifies information and completes unemployment insurance forms for terminated employees in timely manner.
  • Assists Third Party COBRA Administrator in administration of program for terminated employees and other mandated information to employees.
  • Prepares RFP for annual renewal of Company insurance package.
  • Assists in the selection of Insurance Broker.
  • Assists insurance broker in renewal negotiations with insurance companies.
  • Negotiates renewal of worker's compensation insurance, answers related questions, files injury claims and prepares information for yearly audit.
  • Manages the administration of the athletes' insurance programs (three) and submission of claims.
  • Manages administration of USSA club insurance program.
  • Compiles and updates staff manual.
  • Develops and administers recognition, awards and communications programs.
  • Oversees the processing of adverse actions, grievances and other employee relations matters.
  • Interfaces with COO and USSA Legal Counsel on insurance legal issues.
  • Manages janitorial services; oversees processing of complaints from office staff regarding office maintenance problems.

Supervises:

  • Insurance Coordinator/HR Assistant
  • Receptionist

Responsible to:

  • Reports directly to corporation COO.  Also works closely with CFO, and USSA Legal Counsel.  Has direct contact with all employees of corporation.
  • Has external contact with Insurance Brokers, vendors, Third Party Administrators, and Government Agencies.

General Working Conditions:

8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday thru Friday are the normal work expectancies for this position. However, there are times that longer hours are required to get some projects accomplished.  Good grooming and semi-professional dress is essential to this position.
