British Orienteering is the National Governing Body for orienteering in the United Kingdom. We are based in Matlock, Derbyshire with 7 full-time, 5 part-time national staff and 11 regional staff. At present, British Orienteering has approximately 11,500 members. Orienteering is supported by a plentiful and enthusiastic set of volunteers. The British Orienteering Vision is ‘more people, more places, more podiums’; the international programme is responsible for delivering the ‘more podiums’ aspect of the vision. The last 4 years have been extremely successful for our World Class programme, the best in the history of British Orienteering, with individual and relay successes at the World Orienteering Championships. However international programmes and competitors do not stand still and British Orienteering is determined to stay at the cutting edge of international competition. The commencement of a new funding cycle from 2009 has presented an opportunity to review the programme; this review has provided clear evidence that a change of structure will be beneficial and add renewed vitality to the programme. Therefore, British Orienteering is looking to appoint an International Programme Director to lead these changes. The International Programme Director will be based at the National Office, although if a Centre of Excellence is established, a significant part of their time each week will be required at the Centre. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate experience of developing talent pathways and elite programmes in a sporting context. British Orienteering is funded by UK Sport and Sport England and is an Equal Opportunities Employer. |
