1. Sport psychologist and Cricket Coach . I am a qualified psychologist and cricket coach ( ECB Level 2) and offer my own unique approach to developing cricket skills through a combination of mental and technical skill work. I have worked with players from aged 6 up to county first team.
2. I also work in golf, covering all levels and abilities from 24 handicap to professional. I have developed my own style of game improvement combining a good understanding of the mechanics of the game with a clear knowledge of how the brain learns and executes the skills required to play it. Having played the game for 37 years myself reaching a handicap of 5 at my best, I have also have a good knowledge of how one's game can go off. I conduct a full analysis of how an individual plays the game, and then develop a programme of game improvement. I also work with losses of form, specific skills, tactics, strategy, and maximising your enjoyment of the game.
3. Outside cricket and golf, I have worked in a range of other sports as a psychologist, offering mental skills coaching, problem solving and lifestyle management support in both youth and adult populations.
4. The psychology of performance is similar whether relating to playing a sport, standing as an advocate in court, acting on stage, or for example, working in a high pressure sales environment. Drawing on my own experience in advertising and marketing and as a professional actor on the Stage, I offer support/ coaching for any individuals or teams operating in a challenging environment .
All of my work is completely confidential, and I work within the ethical guidelines of both the British Psychological Society and the British Association of Sport and Exercises Sciences.
Sport Psychology

My approach is to gain a thorough understanding of a team/ individual's current sporting activities and ambitions through interview ,observation and liaison with coaching staff and then to provide appropriate skill coaching and development through individual sessions, email liaison, and telephone support.

I offer counselling and coaching based approaches to personal development and the solving of life's challenges.
I have completed a degree in psychology and sport science and a masters by research in applied sport psychology, working with international swimmers. Since qualifying, I have worked with various populations in a range of sports including cricket, golf, rugby, football, show jumping, ice dance and rowing.
The two sports in which I have the most experience are golf and cricket . I have worked with golfers ranging from Challenge tour down to 24 handicap dealing with a range of issues from general long term improvement to specific problems with individual areas of the game. My own experience of playing the game for 37 years ( current handicap 8) helps to understand the role sport psych plays in golf performance. I work part-time as a professional caddy to expand my knowledge of how sport psychology can influence the playing of the game.
In cricket , I have played league cricket for Richmond Cricket Club for 30 years, initially as an opening bowler and latterly as an off break bowler. In 1979, I had a county trial for Kent and played a season in New Zealand. I have coached youth cricket for 8 years including a three year stint as Director of Youth Development. I have a Level 2 Coaching Award and have undergone a CRB Enhanced Disclosure for working with Youth populations.
I have worked with cricketers from County First Team down to under 7's providing education, and dealing with specific issues such as bowling yips, fear, leadership, temperament, goal setting etc.
I am currently the coach for the Imperial College 1st XI and their Sport psychologist. I also provide sport psych support and education for the College's Sport Scholarship students in rowing , rugby and badminton.
I carry Professional Indemnity Insurance and work within the ethical guidelines and Code of Conduct of both the British Psychological Society, and the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences .
Outside sport, I have been working with a variety of senior executives on particular business and personal issues.
In my 20's following a degree in Maths and Management Sciences at London University, I worked in advertising and marketing, specialising in media research and in computer systems for media planning buying and analysis at the FT, Doyle Dane Bernbach and as marketing director of AGB Impact.
In my 30's after attending Guildford School of Acting and Dance, I worked as a professional actor on the stage and co-founded and ran the Baroque Theatre Company, producing National Tours introducing new talent from top London Drama Schools.
In my 40's I concentrated on raising my son Christopher whilst gaining a degree in Psychology with Sport Science at Roehampton University and a Masters by Research in Applied Sport psychology at the University of Gloucestershire exploring the performance issues of international swimmers. During this period, I also enjoyed supervised experience under the guidance of Steve Bull, Sport psych to the England Cricket team and Chris Shambrook, Sport psych to the GB Rowing squad.
I have participated in further training in Person-Centered Counselling , gestalt counselling techniques and attended numerous workshops on specific aspects of applied performance psychology.
I have worked with a wide range of sports including Rugby, cricket, golf, show-jumping, ice dance, marathon running, and rowing with elite, sub-elite and amateur populations.
I work for much of the summer coaching youth and adult cricketers and have experience from county first team to 6 year old beginners.

In general, I am a mad keen sportsman and still play league cricket every saturday, I play golf several times a week and follow rugby in the winter. I have competed in all major sports during my life including, cricket, rugby, soccer, racquets, small-bore rifle shooting, sailing, golf, tennis, and darts.
Sport psychology is my fourth career after a decade in advertising, a decade in the theatre and a decade as a house husband.
I am married to Jane and have a 17-year old son Christopher.
Outside of sport, I enjoy the theatre, Travel, exotic food, playing the guitar. I am a Red Cross volonteer with the Fire and Emergency Support Service and work as a counsellor in training at the Richmond Counselling and Psychotherapy Service.
