Steve is an international management and organisation development consultant
known for his provocative thinking and approach grounded in the realities of
business life.
Steve is CEO of Apter Development LLP and Apter International Ltd. His special area of expertise is
the development of senior managers, directors and teams through a variety of
approaches. He works with the top teams in several organisations helping them to
refine and implement strategy. Steve also makes key contributions in the areas
of leadership development and performance management. Most recently he has been
developing approaches to help managers and organisations better understand the
nature of risk and effective responses to it.
Steve has helped to develop the Apter International Profiling Toolkit: a range of innovative psychometric tools. These can be used in one-on-one coaching sessions, management development programmes, and have been used all over the world in a variety of different applications.
Steve often uses the Apter Profiling Toolkit when working with his clients and is therefore an Experienced Qualified Practitioner ad well as Trainer in the tools.
Prior to founding Apter International, Steve was a Director of TDA
Consulting, responsible for all aspects of management development. He also held
the post of Head of Management Development at the Chartered Management
Institute, responsible for all aspects of accredited and senior executive
programmes as well as acting as an internal management development consultant on
a variety of Institute activities. He represented the Institute at European
level with the European Forum for Management Development.
Steve is well known for his innovative approaches and he has written four
books, numerous articles and spoken at international conferences. Steve has as
MSc in Occupational Psychology from the University of London, is a fellow of the
Royal Geographical Society, Principal member of the Association of Business
Psychologists, Steve is also a member of the Association of Psychological
Science, the Society of Authors, British Psychological Society and Performing
Right Society.
Steve has worked extensively in the UK and in Hong Kong, France, Central Europe,
Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Romania, Greece and the USA.
In the last two years he has worked with: HSBC Holdings plc, Oracle, Scania,
Saudi British Bank, the Boots Company, South African Breweries, Hewlett-Packard
as well as other major organisations in the technology, financial services and
public sectors. He has worked in the Middle East for the British Council and
HSBC (British Bank of the Middle East) and has undertaken strategic leadership
and top team development work with Saudi British Bank over the last five years.
