Lancashire County Cricket Club was founded in 1864 and has been based at the historic and picturesque Old Trafford ground ever since. The cricket club is one of the highest-profile and most successful counties in English cricket, and the ground has been hosting International matches since 1884.
The England team will visit the ground again in 2009 as they face off against their oldest rivals, Australia, in two NatWest Twenty20 International matches.
Alongside cricket, Old Trafford is becoming one of the most desirable multi-purpose venues in the country. The on-site Suites provide the location for a thriving conference and events facility within the Club which caters for social and business gatherings of varying sizes.
A huge array of stars has performed in the Old Trafford ground over the years as it becomes an increasingly popular outdoor music venue. Recent visitors have been REM, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters. In 2009 Lancashire County Cricket Club will welcome 250,000 Take That fans over five nights of concerts as well as internationally renowned band Coldplay, supported by US rap sensation Jay-Z.
With a radical redevelopment in the pipeline – set to bring the Club and its facilities hurtling into the 21st Century whilst retaining the almost tangible sense of history as you walk around the Old Trafford ground – Lancashire County Cricket Club is more than just cricket.
