Jessica Ennis Defines Competitiveness

I was just reading a good article on Heptathlon World Champion, Jessica Ennis (BBC) and it had a really good quote from her. It sums up what it really means to be competitive.Jessica Ennis

"I get really competitive with myself. When I'm doing hurdles sessions Chel (coach Toni Minichiello) has a lovely colourful spreadsheet of all the times I've run from different sessions, all the splits between the different hurdles, so I just love seeing how it compares. If I'm a bit down, that gees me up for running quicker.

See, a competitive mindset is first and foremost about the personal challenge. You first have to get the absolute best out of yourself. If you then don't win, it is only because the other person or team were better at that time. Beating them next time eans returning to the personal challenge to get fitter, faster, stronger, more tactically astute or technically excellent.

The article also revealed the rumour that Usain Bolt had taken a shine to her at the Worlds, but that's another story.
