Canadian Olympians Enjoy Daily Highlights Using DartfishTV at Beijing’s 2008 Summer Olympic Games
A Question and Answer Session -
With Kristin Collins, the High Performance Technician for Canadian Olympics in Beijing 2008 and with Own the Podium 2010.
DF Kristin, we know your experience in working with Olympic athletes in both training and performance with use of Dartfish video technology is extensive. You’ve been involved with both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, dating back to the 2000 Summer Games in Australia.
KC Yes, I’ve been fortunate to be involved in Sydney 2000, Salt Lake City 2002 and Athens 2004 with the US Olympic Committee and the Canadian Olympic Committee in Torino and Beijing…and soon to be Vancouver 2010.
DF Sounds like you took it to a whole new level in Beijing. How did that work?
KC Our staff captured top Canadian Olympic performances using Dartfish, enriched the video content with Pinnacle (adding music and transitions) and then uploaded the final production onto DartfishTV, so that all Canadian Olympic Teams, whether located in Beijing or at outside venues, could view the day’s best performances for additional team-building and motivational purposes. This was a GREAT success!
DF And how did that look, Kristin?
KC In the Olympic Village, we projected video clips on the side of a two-story high building! Viewing Canadian events in this way, created a lot of enthusiasm and buzz each day. Athletes really looked forward to seeing The Best of Canada illustrated in such a visual and dramatic medium.
DF Were there any other ways DartfishTV was used in Beijing?
KC There were. Because some of the competition sites were located quite a distance from the main events in Beijing, we were able to upload tagged videos of these events in one location and then download them in another. This saved us time, because we didn’t have to physically transport video for sports like Soccer.
DF Canada took Gold in the Men’s 8+ Rowing event. Congrats!! Was Dartfish involved in some way?
KC At the Shunyi Rowing Venue, the Canadian Olympic Committee was the only nation to capture live video using Dartfish. Thus, the most disciplined, analyzed their qualifying races, making strategic changes before the finals.
DF Kristin, what’s the plan as you prepare for the Winter Games as the High Performance Advisor, Performance Technology with Canada’s Own the Podium in 2010 Campaign?
KC Generally, our plan is to make sure our Winter Olympic Teams are world-leading in maximizing their efficiency and effectiveness with regard to Performance Technologies. Technologies utilized in both the training and competition environments. Dartfish definitely plays a role in this. Keep up the excellent work!
DF Thanks for sharing, Kristin. We look forward to seeing where your innovation and expertise take you, especially with DartfishTV and the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver/Whistler.
