How to use iStadia
How to add a YouTube/Google video
For everyone who would like to add a YouTube/Google video to their articles, blogs, events or forum posts, read below!
As you may have noticed, iStadia has upgraded their editor, which now has the feature to add a video media file to it!
There is a new "media button" at the end, in the top row of the editor's buttons console. (It looks like a green film.)
On clicking on the Media button, a new pop-up dialog box will appear where you are able to choose:
- the Type of the file (Flash, QuickTime, Shockwave, Windows Media or Real Media),
- the File/URL of the file and
- the Dimenstions of the file.
If you are going to add a YouTube or Google video then the Type should be Flash.
The URL will be the complete url of the source of the video. YouTube will provide you with the url in the URL box on it's video page.
For Google videos, you will find the URL link under the "Email - Blog - Post to MySpace" button in the "Embeded HTML" link.
Enter that URL into the File/URL box and then enter the Dimensions of the video. The width and height of the videos can be found in the embed tag's width and height attributes.
The default width and height of YouTube videos is 425 x 350 but
the recommended video dimensions are 280 x 230.
This size is optimized to fit people's screens that have a low resolution.
Once you enter those information, you will be able to see a preview of the video below and on clicking the Insert button, a new orange box will appear in the editor with a F in the middle.
So... if you did everything correctly, you will have a video embeded in your article, blog, event or forum post!
Editing
If you would like to go back and edit the size of the video after you have submitted it, simply right click on the video (the orange box with the F) in the editor and choose "Add/Edit media".
Note: You may have to click on "ok" at the top of your browser to allow the pop-up window to appear. (if you have a pop-up blocker running).
Enjoy.....
