Weight Control Hypnosis

One of the biggest misconceptions about hypnosis is that hypnotists are capable of controlling their clients with hypnosis. The ironic truth is that clients go to hypnotists because they are out of control and something is controlling them.

It might be food, a phobia, or a smoking habit. Whatever it is, the hypnotist works to help the client regain control over what was previously causing them so much pain and harm.

In the case of obesity, there is only one cause:- overeating. Forget any excuses about genetic conditions and having a slow metabolism. If your body has any surplus bodyfat, you are simply eating more food than your body needs. Only when you accept this truth can you achieve permament control over your weight.

The next step is to understand what is causing you to eat when you don't need to.

The answer is simple.   You are comfort eating.

Even among those who are not actively trying to lose weight or maintain weight-loss, eating to relieve stress is common. People unconsciously turn to food as a means of self-medication. Certain foods act as "edible tranquillisers" because of the effect they have on the brain. Carbohydrate-rich foods increase levels of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is involved with mood, anxiety and sleep induction. It helps minimise symptoms of stress, albeit for the short-term.

As we will discuss in the section on nutrition, excess carbohydrate intake can greatly increase stress levels. Yet the body is unconsciously looking for a quick fix, not a long-term solution to stress.

So when and where does the habit or comfort eating begin? It is actually initiated when the moment you are born. Think of the whole birth process. For a whole 9 months, you spent all your time within your mother's womb. Everything was taken care of for you. You were safe and secure without a worry in the world. Then, your birth took place and things were never the same again. You were squeezed through the birth canal into this cold world, totally unprepared to deal with the stress of it all.

To make matters worse, you were hung upside down and smacked in the bottom! Your only reaction was to bawl out in total fear. Your reward for this was to be handed to your delighted mother, who held you close in her loving arms. You felt safe and suddenly, things weren't so scary any more.

When you are a small baby, things are very big and scary. Imagine lying in a big cot, looking up and not knowing what is going on around you. The only response is fear. You begin crying and your mother comes up to check on you and see what's wrong. She checks your nappy to check if it's soiled. If it isn't, she automatically assumes that you are crying because you are hungry. This is often a huge mistake on your mother's part, one that can affect you at any time throughout your life.

Many times, you are not crying because you're hungry. You're simply crying because you're scared. Your mother holds you close and feeds you via breast or bottle. Being held close to your mother makes you feel safe once more. This is the beginning of your unconscious association between eating food and being secure. Whenever you put food in your mouth, you feel safe and content. All your worries disappear while you eat.

The comfort-eating pattern can remain dormant in your life for many years before it is activated. Food might never have been a problem during your childhood and teens. When you decided to get married, however, things became a little different. Extra responsibility. Extra demands. Extra stress.

While consciously thinking of ways of dealing with this stress, you unconsciously find yourself resorting to food as source of calm and relaxation. Other reasons for comfort eating include anger, boredom, feeling a lack of control, feeling under-appreciated and experiencing a sense of hopelessness.

The more frequently you engage in these eating patterns, the stronger the link becomes. It is therefore important that you identify times when you indulge in comfort eating and then introduce ways of eliminating the habit altogether.

Hypnosis is the best way to elimate comfort eating and achieve total control over your weight. Like any habit, comfort eating is an unconscious process, something people do without thinking. Since hypnosis involves communication with the unconscious mind, it is the best way to easily solve this problem for good.

When you use hypnosis to lose weight, you will be in complete control of stress. The weight will come off quickly and any fears you had will soon transform into a divine mixture of confidence, anticipation and downright excitement! The comfort eating habit will be eliminated and you will quickly achieve the weight loss results you want!
